:: Wharf to Wharf ::

Last Sunday we woke up a bit earlier than normal and headed over to the Santa Cruz Wharf to join 15,000 people for the 37th Annual Wharf to Wharf Race. In true Santa Cruz form, the fog was thick at 7:00am when we arrived, however the cool fog made for a nice running temperature. The kiddos had tired eyes, but they were both excited to go on a 'big race'...Navigating through the hoards of people with a double stroller proved to be a bit time consuming in the beginning. We chose to be polite and not mow people over. Once we got past the masses we had a more clear path so we could actually run rather than stop and start over and over again.

The balloon arch is where the official start line was...this picture is where we started from.It took about 10 minutes to get to there among all of the people!The Wharf to Wharf is a six mile (10 Km) course that runs from the Santa Cruz Wharf to the Capitola Wharf. Although, I have lived here for over 22 years and have driven this six miles countless times, I have never done it on foot. It was such a fun experience! All sorts of bands were playing along the roadside, people were spraying hoses from their front yards, friends were cheering one another on, and some people were even running in costumes.

You can see the course in this picture.

Here we are crossing the finish line!
It was a great time and we plan on making it an annual event in the Lettner household!!

Woo-Hoo! Good job! I can only imagine how difficult it was to navigate out of those people, as it was hard enough to do without a stroller! Next year you guys will have to go all hard core and carry the kids on your backs.

What a fun event! How long did it take you to run the 6 miles...and did your kids do pretty well for the duration of the race?

Also: what double jogging stroller do you have?

Congrats on completing the race! I think it's awesome that you and your husband are setting such a good example for your kids. :)

I wanted to know about that jogger as well :)

nice! i have done it about 4 or 5 times. although technically it's not a 10k, since it is just 6 miles. a 10k is 6.2 miles...
i dislike running with the stroller, so i have jer's parents watch them. it's great! i'll look for you next year!
